| Satellite Services - Phones |
|
Satellite service also include satellite phones. The advancement in telecom sector has lead to invention of satellite phones. Satellite services may cover a part of the globe or entire globe and render their services. Very few companies in the world offer satellite servics. These companies are competing with one another to obtain greater share in the growing base for satellite phones. Military, forestry, maritime, aviation sector, emergency services and oil, gas sector personnel use satellite services. Unlike normal cell phones, satellite phones do not disconnect and offer good voice quality. However, satellite services are yet to form a stable customer base. Cell phones work on transmitting towers whereas satellite phones work on satellite services. Satellite services and transmission towers use radio waves to transmit the signals. Satellite service that offer phone services have little bandwidth. Moreover, since the positions of the satellites are in space, the phenomena such as bad climate, hurricane, rains, and hailstorms may disrupt the satellite service. Apart from these, another drawback of the satellite service for phones is that satellite phones use only less satellite time. That means people will have to complete their conversation in particular time only, else the satellite service may disconnect the calls. Geosynchronous Satellites And Leo Satellites:
Satellite services are mostly dependent on two satellites, positioned in the earth's orbit. They are geosynchronous satellites and Leo satellites. The position of the geosynchronous satellites is at the top of equatorial line whereas Leo satellites reside in the downward orbits of the earth. These satellites revolve with the earth. Thus, users may opt for satellite service providers who use these satellites. There are other trivial satellites, which work for specific years. So avoid companies that provide satellite services through some other satellites. Researchers recommend use of satellite services that use Leo satellites. Geosynchronous satellites delay the sound waves. It means when a person communicates with other individual through phones that use geosynchronous satellite services, his or her voice may reach the other end after few seconds. It takes one fourth second for phone signal to hit the satellite and come back again. However, Leo satellite services do not have this delay because this satellite is located in lower orbits and it takes only 0.005 seconds for the roundtrip. So, opt for Leo satellite services. Satellite phones are not new to the world, satellite services were used to make these phones some 25 years ago, when there was no trace of cell phones. Thus, satellite phones are good option only when regular cell phones run out of their services.
